Comanche County Memorial Hospital is in the process of upgrading and changing its medical record systems. Once the upgrade is complete, the hospital, its providers, and specialists will be under one system.
Dr. Scott Michener, Chief Medical Officer at CCMH, said right now the hospital and those under the memorial network are working under five to seven different medical record systems that don’t talk with each other.
“As a urologist, I see my notes, and I can see some of the other specialist notes, but if primary care sends me a patient, I can’t see their notes, and they can’t see my notes,” Dr. Michener said.
Dr. Michener said upgrading to MEDITECH should improve care for patients in southwest Oklahoma.
“They’ll be able to engage their physicians in a new way,” Dr. Michener said. “All records will be in the new system, and like I said, wherever you engage your health, if you engage it in the memorial system, you will be able to see your records and engage with your physicians, and all points of care will be connected.”
Frieda O’brien, a project manager, said MEDITECH started working with the hospital at the beginning of June to make the transition go smoothly and plans to go live with the new record system in August of next year.
“We come in, and we determine their current workflows,” O’brien said. “We determine where the gaps are, and then we work side-by-side with MEDITECH, and we try to bridge those gaps. We show the customer what the gaps are, they can see these for themselves, but once they see it on paper, it’s like: ‘Oh my goodness.’ Comanche gives excellent health care, and we want to continue to do that with an excellent medical record for them.”
She said the program is built to fit the hospital’s needs. They also train employees on the program so they’re ready when it goes live next August.
